The FBI has arrested an unnamed person for making fake ransom notes, posing as the kidnapper of Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie.

Nancy was last seen at 9:45 on Saturday night after being dropped off by her son-in-law, Tomasso Cioni, who drove her home. Nancy had spent the evening having dinner with Tomasso and her daughter, Annie. After failing to appear on Sunday morning, authorities found blood and a removed Ring camera at her Tucson home.

A “total imposter” ransom note has led to an arrest

On Tuesday, TMZ reported receiving a ransom note sent to their publication, allegedly from Nancy’s abductors. The note was passed on to the authorities in Arizona for investigation. The note demanded an undisclosed sum of cryptocurrency, said to be in millions. There was an added threat of “or else,” if these demands were left unmet.

Additionally, another ransom note was sent on Wednesday. This time, Arizona-based news network KOLD reported a letter emailed to their office. Journalist Mary Coleman confirmed to CNN a note was sent, but added that details could not be disclosed, due to “sensitive information.”

In a video shared to her Instagram on Wednesday, Savannah and her siblings appealed to Nancy’s captors. They cited that the 84-year-old needs urgent medical care, and they would be willing to negotiate for her freedom.

In a new statement, the FBI has declared a ransom note claiming to be from Nancy’s captors was illegitimate. “We believe there is no evidence to connect this to Nancy’s case,” special agent Heith Janke, said on Thursday. It was someone that was trying to profit from it. A total imposter.”

However, no identity of the alleged impostor was disclosed to the public. Additionally, the FBI shared the unnamed person will face a magistrate judge later that day.

On the contrary, another ransom note, sent to media outlets, including TMZ, was under investigation. Janke said the FBI was taking this note “extremely seriously.”

Tomasso is the husband of Nancy’s daughter, Annie. According to Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos, Nancy had dinner with her daughter and son-in-law on Saturday evening. After the dinner, Nancy was driven home by Tomasso at approximately 9:45 pm. Tomasso was the last person to see Nancy before her abduction, the authorities stated.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has denied Savannah’s brother-in-law is a person of interest in Nancy’s disappearance. “At this point, investigators have not identified a suspect or person of interest in this case. Detectives continue to speak with anyone who may have had contact with Mrs. Guthrie,” a statement from the department read on Wednesday, February 4.

Additionally, they warned against online speculation and misinformation regarding the ongoing case. “Detectives are working closely with the Guthrie family. While we appreciate the public’s concern, the sharing of unverified accusations or false information is irresponsible and does not assist the investigation.”

Tomasso’s alleged biography on the Tapirulan Cultural Association website states: “I was born in San Giovanni Valdarno on June 18, ’75. Since 2006, I have been living in Tucson, Arizona.”

On Tuesday, TMZ stated that they received a ransom note from Nancy’s alleged kidnappers. While not disclosing the amount, the tabloid claimed the abductors demanded millions in cryptocurrency for her return, “or else.” The publication claimed the bitcoin address in the ransom note was found to be legitimate, and they had passed on the note to the relevant authorities in Arizona.

“We have nothing else to go on but the belief that she is here,” Sheriff Chris Nanos said in the interview. “She’s present. She’s alive, and we want to save her.”

Additionally, authorities confirmed yesterday that they had “no clue” regarding the number of potential kidnappers involved. “It could have been one. It could have been more.”

Moreover, TMZ reportedly received an alleged ransom note from Nancy’s captors on Tuesday. The note, according to the outlet, demanded millions in bitcoin for the mother-of-three’s return. TMZ also stated that they had checked the Bitcoin delivery address and found out it was legitimate.

According to an exclusive report by Variety, the film’s production “resurrects” with Pedro’s casting after Joaquin’s departure. The movie’s official description details that Pedro will play “a hard-boiled detective” with Danny portraying “his younger lover.”

Set in 1930s Los Angeles, the film “charts the passionate and unexpected love affair between a cop and a boarding school teacher,” according to the outlet. The film sees Los Angeles “overtaken by corruption, and the world is on the brink of war.”

“The two men become targets of the city’s corrupt political machine and are forced to flee to Mexico,” Variety continued.

“This story, with Pedro Pascal and Danny Ramirez in the two leads, arises out of an era — all too relevant to our own — of domestic corruption, racial exploitation, and global terror,” director Todd said in a statement to the magazine.

Shooting will begin next month. The production was originally set to begin in August 2024, before Joaquin left the project at the last minute. According to Variety’s exclusive report at the time, the actor allegedly got “cold feet” over appearing in the film. The then-untitled movie was shelved until being picked up with Pedro’s casting in the lead role.

The White House has mocked journalist Don Lemon, following his arrest at the hands of federal agents on Thursday evening. The charges against the reporter remain sealed, as of Friday afternoon, but Don had been previously warned by the Department of Justice earlier this month.

Don’s live-streamed coverage of an ICE protest in St. Paul’s church, Minneapolis, landed him in hot water with the DOJ. He was told by an official for the department that he was “on notice,” following the protest. Don has denied any affiliation to anti-ICE protest groups, and has said his coverage of the demonstration was an act of journalism.

Don will appear before a judge following his arrest later on Friday afternoon, according to an exclusive report from Deadline. The appearance is set to be around 1pm in downtown Los Angeles.

The former CNN host is allegedly facing “conspiracy to Deprive Rights, and …interfering by force of someone’s First Amendment rights.” According to the outlet, if found guilty, the journalist could face ten years in prison on the first charge. If found guilty on the second charge as a misdemeanor violation, he could still face a year behind bars.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration has celebrated Don’s arrest on social media. The White House shared a black-and-white image of Don on X, declaring his arrest. The graphic claims that he was arrested for his “involvement in the St. Paul church riots.”

The White House captioned the post with a mocking pun on the reporter’s name, When life gives you lemons …” they wrote, with attached chain emojis.

Earlier this week, Magistrate Judge Douglas Micko declined the DOJ’s attempts to arrest Don. He ruled that the prosecutors had failed to present evidence to justify the journalist’s arrest.

The unlikely pair got together at the Trump Accounts Summit on January 28. At the summit, Nicki declared herself the President’s “biggest fan,” and called on his supporters to protect him. She addressed the backlash against her MAGA turn, saying the hatred motivated her to support Trump even more.

After the meet-up, Nicki shared a photo on X of her holding a Trump Gold Card. “Welp …” the rapper wrote, proudly displaying a shiny golden image of the President’s face, accompanied by his signature.

According to the official Trump Gold Card website, the card will “unlock life in America” for those who own the card. For a $15,000 DHS processing fee and, after background approval, a contribution of $1 million,” the website promises, immigrants can “receive U.S. residency in record time with the Trump Gold Card.”

In a follow-up post, Nicki confirmed she had signed on to become a legal citizen. “Finalizing that citizenship paperwork as we speak as per MY wonderful, gracious, charming President,” she wrote on X. “Thanks to the petition. ? I wouldn’t have done it without you. Oh CitizenNIKA you are thee moment. Gold Trump Card free of charge.”

Nicki is likely referring to the petition calling on her to be deported from the United States. The Change petition highlighted that, in the past, the rapper had revealed she is an undocumented immigrant. Nicki stated in 2018 that her parents brought her to the U.S. from Trinidad and Tobago when she was 5 years old, in a post criticizing Trump’s immigration policy of separating families at the border.

Hasan Piker has announced to his three million followers that he has been banned from the Twitch app once more.

The left-wing streamer used his platform on the app to discuss the recent killing of ICU nurse Alex Pretti at the hands of ICE. The Minneapolis citizen was recording ICE agents in the street, which resulted in a confrontation where he was shot dead by the agents. Proponents of both the First and Second Amendments have condemned the killing as a violation of his constitutional rights.

Hasan Piker took aim at those defending the use of watch lists to track US protestors

During the Twitch stream, Hasan speculated that ICE had been tracking Alex Pretti prior to his killing. “Two senior national security officials tell me there are more than a dozen secret watch lists that Homeland Security is using to track protestors, both anti-ICE and pro-Palestinians,” Hasan said.

It was there that Hasan used the two-word phrase that resulted in his ban. The streamer referred to the alleged trackers as “zionist pigs” and “Israel-first monsters.” He was then informed that he had violated the platform’s community guidelines.

Hasan took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his outrage about the ban. In the post, he took aim at the app’s guidelines. “You CAN say nazi pig on Twitch, you CAN say Democrat pig, you can say Republican pig, you can say Islamist pig. You CANNOT say zionist pig,” He said.

Hasan called out the American Defamation League (ADL) in the next part of his tweet. He called the organization “an arm of Israel’s suppression in the west that works w/ law enforcement & does espionage.” He added that it was the ADL that made his two-word phrase “a bannable offense.”

It’s not the first time Hasan has been banned from Twitch. In May last year, he was banned after showing an alleged manifesto of Elias Rodriguez, the perpetrator of the Capital Jewish Museum shooting. Twitch called the action “improper handling of terrorist propaganda”. In 2021, he was banned for using the word “cracker,” in reference to white people, on stream.

Hasan has not stated when he expects to return to Twitch. However, his previous bans have been for approximately 24 hours.

Don Lemon was arrested and taken into custody by federal agents on Thursday evening, when the veteran journalist was in Los Angeles covering the Grammy Awards. Don has been an outspoken critic of Donald Trump during his journalism career. More recently, the reporter has been in a public feud with Trump supporter Nicki Minaj over his coverage of ICE.

The charges Don is facing were not made immediately clear upon his arrest. However, just days ago, the former CNN host was warned by a Department of Justice official that he was “on notice,” following his coverage of ICE protests in Minnesota. A magistrate judge and an appeals court had earlier rejected these efforts.

“At my direction, early this morning federal agents arrested Don Lemon, Trahern Jeen Crews, Georgia Fort, and Jamael Lydell Lundy,” Attorney General Pam Bondi wrote on X today. She also stated the arrests were made “in connection with the coordinated attack on Cities Church in St. Paul, Minnesota.”

“More details soon,” she added.

The Justice Department initially brought charges after Don live-streamed an anti-ICE protest inside a church this month. The journalist broadcast the actions of protesters, who disrupted a service in St. Paul’s church in the Twin Cities. Don was met with a slew of homophobic abuse from his critics, namely rapper Nicki Minaj, who has expressed her support for ICE. At the time, Don denied any connection to the protest group. He stated that he followed the protestors’ march, which erupted during a church service. The protests were sparked at the place of worship because a pastor at the church works as an ICE officer.

“I’m not going to get in the middle of it, because I’m not here as an activist. I’m here as a journalist,” Don told viewers during the livestream.

Don’s arrest is one of many recent examples of the Trump administration violently thwarting coverage of ICE. This month, ICU nurse Alex Pretti was shot dead by ICE agents after recording their actions.  Hannah Natanson, a Washington Post journalist, received a search warrant from the Trump administration-run FBI. Her devices and personal belongings were seized in the search.

CNN, where Don formerly worked as a journalist, stated that he will appear in court on Friday.
