Although Danielle Fishel is alive and well, her six-year-old son might tell you otherwise. Before getting the boot from Dancing with the Stars, Danielle said that her son was struggling to cope with her busy dance schedule. Things got so stressful for the little guy that he told his teacher his mom “died.” It’s morbid, but it’s just another example of the toll this show takes on everyone involved.
Danielle Fishel’s son is struggling with her busy Dancing with the Stars schedule
Last week, Danielle went on her podcast, Pod Meets World, and told her former Boy Meets World costars how her son dealt with her participation on the show. From wardrobe fittings to hair appointments to camera-blocking, Season 34 has been a full-time job.
While juggling all of those responsibilities, Danielle said she got a call from her son’s school. Her six-year-old Adler made a comment that warranted a check-in from his teacher.
“It’s his teacher,’ Danielle said of the unexpected phone call. “She says, ‘So, we had a little bit of an issue today with Adler and I wanted to talk to you about it.’”
The teacher went on to explain how Adler was having trouble “self-starting on some of his work.” Adler also mentioned feeling “very stressed” and said his “dad inputted a lot of information on the computer wrong and then got fired.” Then, he threw out the big bomb. He said, “Also, my mom died.”
“None of this is true,” Danielle clarified.
Fast forward a little later, and Danielle recalled another moment with her son where he desperately wanted to hang out with her. She told him she couldn’t because she had a rehearsal, and that’s when he broke down.
Danielle recalled him saying, “I hate this job! Why did you take this job? All you do is dance, dance, dance, dance. That’s all you do! You never get to hang out with me and Keaton anymore. I want you to quit. Are you going to quit or not?”
“He said, ‘I just need to know if you’re going to quit your job.’ I said, ‘Mommy’s not going to quit her job.’ And he said, ‘Why?’ I said, ‘Well, a couple of reasons. One, Mommy really loves her job. And two, because this job is not forever, and I made a commitment to the job,’” Danielle continued.
The episode of this podcast was pre-recorded, so Danielle had no idea her days on DWTS were numbered. Danielle wound up getting eliminated in Episode 8, after her Rock and Roll Hall of Fame dance. Adler might have manifested that one.
Dancing with the Stars continues on Tuesdays at 8/7c on ABC and Disney+.
